Tonga Whale Trip

Freediving with Whales in Tonga

Come join us on this epic freediving trip with Adam Stern to Tonga. Come dive and play with humpback whales in Tonga with Australian freediving national-record holder Adam Stern.

Come and spend 1 week freediving with humpback whales on the remote Island of Eua in Tonga. We’ll be staying in the rustic Deep Resort with our own private chef and million dollar views with regular whale sightings from the grounds.

INFO FLYER

Unlike other whale dive tours. We will be the only boat operating in Eua, which gives us unparalleled access to humpbacks in the region. In Vava’u there are 32 active whale charter boats in operation, in Tongatapu there are 5. This will be the absolute trip of a lifetime!

This is a trip to freedive with whales. Not to snorkel with them or swim with them but to dive with them! No freediving experience or certification is required though. Most of the whale encounters take place on the surface and a freediving course/training is included in the price of the trip.

Our trips will be guided by local captains and a marine biologist to teach us about the behaviour of the whales so that we can get the absolute most out of our swim time with them.

Out of the 7 days we have 5 days on the boat diving with the humpbacks. It’s impossible to get tired of diving with these giants but if we do we feel the need to mix it up we can explore the local reefs and dive the Cathedral Caves, voted one of the best cave dives on the planet!

Eua Island

There is 40m vis every day of the week in Eua island.

Eua Island is teaming with marine life. Of course, the humpback whales are the biggest draw-card, although there are also other animals to get excited over. Over the past five years large schools of over 50 plus sailfish have been swimming past. Fortunately, the aggregation is on a very deep drop off and typical visibility is 40 plus meters. Other species encountered here include wahoo, yellow fin tuna, mahi mahi and schools of barracuda. Another awesome feature of Eua Island is the rugged coastline, abundant blowholes and the Cathedral Caves on the islands coast. Eua Island also has several FADS (Fish Aggregation Devices) as well that make for an interesting drift on snorkel. Back on land we stay at the small and comfortable Deep Resort. Deep Resort has five rooms (fales) for our guests to share. We will even have our own private Tongan chef that will cook all our meals for us (all meals included in price). The view from the Deep Resort is simply amazing and most divers enjoy a few sunset drinks watching the whales breach and cruise by the front of the resort! Simply the best!

Cathedral Cave

This cave system makes for an exciting and picturesque dive site. This is a world-famous diving site. You won’t want to forget your camera! The diving in Eua Island is said to be one of the best dive spots not only in Tonga but in the world as well. Drop-offs, sea mountains, caves and canyons. In 2001 a huge cathedral was found, it is about 100 meters long, 50 meters wide and 30 meters deep.
